FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is this part of Mexico Safe?
The answer is probably the same one you would give someone traveling to the US. Yes, and No. Use the same precautions you would at home and you will be fine.

Can you drink the water?
This part of Mexico has some of the cleanest water in the country of Mexico, but do the fact that we get most of our water from cenotes we have strong minerals in the water that are not appropriate to drink and over time cause kidney stone etc.  Bottled water is recommended for drinking and brushing of teeth because as a foreigner you are more susceptible to stomach upset. We recommend using a bacterial wash just to be on the safe side for any vegetable you buy and prepare.

Shopping?
Where do I shop for my food during my stay? You have to option to drive into Playa del Carmen and go grocery shopping for your stay, which is both time consuming and sometimes just plane confusing. There is a Wal-Mart in Playa which carries many American brands. Most people contract a shopping agency so that when you arrive all your food and a cold beer awaits you. Prices are usually the cost of food plus 30% of the bill.

Chef Services?
If you do not want to cook many villas have live in chefs, or outside chef’s that will come prepare meals for you at an additional cost.

How do I get around?
Transportation:
Vans:  Vans regularly run up and down the federal highway between Tulum and Playa del Carmen.  They are very inexpensive. They work well but are slow and stop frequently. They do not run after 10pm
Taxis:
Taxis also run up and down the federal highway between Tulum and Playa del Carmen looking for passengers. As with any taxi in the Yucatan, fares can vary wildly, so it's a good idea to ask what the journey will cost before embarking.
Out of town buses:
From the federal highway, you can catch one of the second class buses that run to the bus stations in Playa del Carmen, or Tulum, or any place in between.
Private transportation and Vans:
Many tourists who rent our villas contract private vans and cars for their stays and excursions. Contact us directly to prepare this in advance.
Are credit cards accepted?
