Where the locals eat: La Pumarolla: is authentic, homemade Italian food. There is something on the menu for everyone and their pizzas are great. Every time I have been the service has been excellent and we have been given an appetizer or aperitif on the house. This is a wonderful place to take the family. This wonderful Italian restaurant now has two locations one on calle 3 and 4th and calle 38 and 40th . We normally eat at the 38th and 40th location. Calle 38, Playa del Carmen, Mexico La Cueva del Chango is one of Playa’s best kept secrets. It’s the perfect way to start your day in peace and tranquility, have a chilled-out breakfast or lunch. The food is fresh and always yummy. BE AWARE the delivery of the food is very slow so be ready to hang out a while drinking your morning Joe or enjoying an afternoon beer with birds flying around in the jungle garden. The food is worth the wait. THE OASIS Located just past Telebodega on highway 307 this little restaurant has a wonderful menu filled with options. They serve fish and seafood tacos, ceviche, soups etc. A great choice while passing thru playa. La Floresta Restaurant Floresta has the best shrimp (camaron) tacos in town. Nothing fancy just good tacos. The price is $1.00 for each taco and you can eat 4 or 5 and you are stuffed! They have other fish tacos and ceviche but honestly, we go solely for the shrimp tacos. Location is on the highway. It is always full of locals and anyone else who was lucky enough to discover it. A little knowledge of Spanish might be helpful but not crucial.
